Land Quality Assurance is the flagship service provided by RITE Advice. To complement standard Land Quality Assessments we are able to offer systematic processes that prepare the project planning, surveys and assessments in a manner which can provide real Assurance about [the estimate of the true mean of] the contamination level.

Without systematic planning processes such as those offered by RITE Advice and without a true understanding of the principles behind those processes land contamination assessments can often be mere broad approximations. This is an important consideration when the level of assurance is often linked to the purchase potential of a green or brownfield site. It is even more important when the contamination level is close to a legal threshold.
In the long term this method is also a far more cost effective approach than standard land quality assessment techniques. This is because the holisitc nature of the method allows any weaknesses or unforeseen matters in the project to be identified before the main data gathering process begins.

Following a Preliminary Assessment and the creation of a Conceptual Model, a Process Summary Document is produced. All stakeholders are invited to sign up to the risks and strategies contained within. This is carried out so that before the costly main phase of sampling beings, any contentious matters are addressed. The final output is a conclusion document which summarises the final data and states how the objectives of the project were met.

Using this method, the current or prospective land owner can confidently weigh up any risks to the [future] occupier and compare theses against any potential level of investment required in the land. An obvious connotation to this is that the level of confidence is directly related to the value of the land.
Defra's Contaminated Land Reports 10-12 (plus 13-15 for radioactivity) and the EPA's Data Quality Objectives process are the engines behind the process.
